By Davies Iheamnachor PORT HARCOURT — The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of two police officers in the state and recovered firearms allegedly stolen during the attack. The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko Agabe, described the arrests as a major breakthrough in the investigation, saying the operation followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, to track down those responsible. According to Agabe, the officers were attacked on June 29, 2026, while conducting a stop-and-search operation within the Aluu Division. She said two officers lost their lives in the incident, while their service AK-47 rifles were taken by the attackers. She added that the Commissioner of Police immediately ordered the deployment of the Command’s operational and intelligence assets to arrest the suspects and recover the stolen weapons. “Acting on the Commissioner’s directive, operatives of the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), through credible intelligence and sustained tactical operations, arrested three suspected members of the gang,” she said. The suspects were identified by the police as Maduabuchi Emeka, alias “Doctor,” 34; Chinedu Owhor, 42; and Kamachi Joe, 28, all from Omoku area of Rivers State. According to the police, exhibits recovered include three AK-47 rifles and one Scorpion rifle. The Command also said one of the suspects had allegedly provided information linking the group to other murder cases currently under investigation. Police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend another suspect who remains at large. Agabe said the arrests underscore the Command’s determination to ensure that those responsible for attacks on security personnel and other violent crimes are brought to justice. The police added that investigations are continuing.
